Today is the last day for distribution, but before we arrived at the hospital we visited a local school. The classes were full of very well behaved children who politely welcomed us into their classrooms and listened as we introduced ourselves. They were enthusiastic, glad to be in school and gracious for the stationary equipment that had generously been donated. We also had a quick trip to the school kitchen where the head teacher assured us that all children received lunch each day even if they couldn't afford it.
When we reached the hospital there were already people there. They were registered and the therapist assessed and assigned mobility aids for the rest of the afternoon.
The afternoon went well and everyone was seen. Any wheelchairs left will be used by the hospital to help other patients in need and any clothing left has gone to the nutrition unit.
Over the 7 days of distribution we have assigned over 200 wheelchairs, as well as numerous crutches, walking frames, sticks and buggys. It is amazing what a difference this makes to so many lives, not only the actual clients who gain independence and dignity but also the other family members who in alot of cases have had to carry the clients around.
It has been a truly amazing experience. For some of us it is our first time and we are so hoping to return in the near future. We are blown away by the country, the people and the way the charity helps so many people in so many ways.
